How One Man’s Daily Run Became a Legendary Streak and a Community Movement
For most people, running every day sounds impossible. But for Robert "Raven" Kraft, it’s simply a way of life. For the past 50 years, Raven has run 8 miles on the sands of Miami Beach—every single day. Rain or shine, in sickness or health, he hasn’t missed a single run since January 1, 1975.
Now in his 70s, Raven’s running streak is more than a personal accomplishment—it’s become a symbol of discipline, community, and resilience. His daily ritual has inspired thousands to lace up their shoes and join him, turning his solitary run into a global movement.

How the Streak Began
Raven’s running journey started during a difficult chapter in his life. Struggling with personal setbacks and searching for purpose, he made a New Year’s resolution on January 1, 1975: to run 8 miles on Miami Beach every day. What began as a personal challenge quickly became a way to rebuild his life—one step at a time.
"I wanted to prove to myself that I could stick to something, no matter what," Raven once shared. That first run sparked a habit that he’s never broken, no matter the circumstances.
The Rules of the Run
Raven’s streak isn’t just about running—it’s about consistency and commitment. His routine follows a strict set of self-imposed rules:
Distance: He must run exactly 8 miles.
Location: It must be on Miami Beach, from the 5th Street Lifeguard Tower.
Daily Commitment: The run must be completed every single day, no matter the weather or personal circumstances.
Even during hurricanes, injuries, or illness, Raven has never allowed himself to skip a day. He’s run through tropical storms, extreme heat, and even on crutches after an injury.
The Birth of a Community
Over time, Raven’s solo runs caught the attention of locals and tourists alike. What began as a solitary practice slowly evolved into a community event, with thousands joining him over the years.
Raven welcomes runners of all ages and abilities to join his daily beach run. He even gives each participant a nickname, creating a sense of belonging and connection. Some of his runners have been with him for years, while others join for a single run—but everyone becomes part of the Raven family.
To date, more than 2,600 people from all over the world have run alongside Raven.

Why He Keeps Going
Raven’s streak isn’t about records or recognition—it’s about staying true to himself and the community he’s built.
"Running gives me peace," he’s said. "It’s not about speed or competition. It’s about showing up every day and pushing through whatever life throws at you."
His daily run has become a source of mental clarity, physical strength, and emotional healing.
Lessons from Raven’s Streak
Raven’s story is about more than running—it’s a powerful lesson in resilience, commitment, and the value of small, consistent actions over time. His journey teaches us that:
Discipline Builds Strength: Small, consistent habits can lead to lifelong change.
Community Matters: Sharing your passion can inspire and uplift others.
There Are No Excuses: Commitment means showing up, no matter the circumstances.
Running Can Heal: Movement can be a form of therapy for both body and mind.
